A total of 670 applicants for PhD and about 385 applicants in M.Phil have been shortlisted for appearing in the academically important and research oriented prestigious RGUPET, informed the RGU’s Deputy Registrar (Academic & Conference) Dr. David Pertin.
The candidates will vie for 67 PhD and 72 M. Phil vacant seats in various disciplines, including Anthropology, Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Computer Science and Engineering, Economics, Education, Geography, Hindi, History, Political Science, Mathematics, Management, Mass Communication, Tribal Studies and Zoology, Dr. Pertin said.

Accolades galore for Everest conquerors

The team was given a rousing welcome by DoNER Minister Paban Singh Ghatowar on their arrival at IG International Airport in New Delhi on May 31. High ranking officers and officials of DoNER ministry and Govt of Manipur were present on the occasion.
Representing Arunachal Pradesh, KN Damo, Deputy Resident Commissioner and his staff members received the NE Everesters in the Airport with bouquets and khadas.
Yesterday, Assam Minister for Tourism, Forest and Environment Rockybul Hussain on behalf of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi organized a civic reception and felicitation of Everest team members in Assam Bhavan in New Delhi. The programme was also attended by former DoNER Minister B.K. Handique, Assam MP Bhubaneshwar Kalita, MLA Devbrata Saikia, and President of Assam Mountaineering Association Stayen Sarma,
It is worth mentioning here that Assam Govt has announced cash award of Rs.20 lakh each to Everester duo from Assam Tarun Saikia and Manish Deka. Manipur Government has announced Rs. 62 lakh to its mountaineers while Mizoram Government announced Rs. eight lakh. Meghalaya Govt has announced promotion of Wangshuk Myrthong from constable to Sub Inspector. However, the Government of Arunachal Pradesh is yet to make any announcement for Anshu Jamsenpa, who conquered the world’s highest mountain peak for third time, and first timer Nima Lama, according to Arunachal Mountaineering and Adventure Sports Association release.
The Chief Secretary, Govt of Manipur also organized a felicitation programme to honor the NE mountaineering team on May 31.
The NE India mountaineers were also honored by Nepal Government on May 29 coinciding with the celebration of 60th anniversary of Mt Everest Expedition.
Along with other Everest summiteers, the NE mountaineers were given standing ovation by the mountaineering fraternity led by Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ram Kumar Shrestha.
All the summiteers received a letter of appreciation from the Government of Nepal in addition to Everest summit certificates.
The Tourism Secretary of Nepal Sushil Ghimire while congratulating the Everesters said, “We want that all Everest summiteers, irrespective of their nationalities, live a dignified life and that you will be known for your bravery in your neighborhood and society”.
He also condoled the death of 16 climbers and sherpas, who lost their lives on the slopes of Everest region during the current climbing season.
ITANAGAR, Jun 02: Arunchal Vikash Parishad (AVP) paid homage to late Dwarkacharya ji, the founder organizing secretary, in a programme organized at its head office today.
Dwarkacharya was an engineering graduate from Andhra Pradesh and came to Arunachal Pradesh as full time worker of Kalyan Ashram in 1988 and founded AVP in 1993 under the president ship of late Talom Rukbo and secretary Jatan Pulu.
While offering her tributes to Acharya ji, Shanti Tasso, founder member of AVP, who had worked with him said that he taught us how to live and work for the society. She also shared her memories of touring with Acharya ji and Talom Rukbo in Arunachal for spreading the indigenous faith movement in grassroots level.
Tai Tagak, another founder member of AVP and present state BJP president also shared
his experiences with Acharya ji. He informed about the unique initiative of Acharya
ji of conducting the Bharat Darshan tour called ‘Arunodaya-
AVP president Pratik Potom appealed the gathering to fulfil the dreams of Acharya ji by working hard.
AVP Vice President Techi Gubin also appealed to follow his foot prints.
DM Mallo, patron of AVP said that carrying forward his work will be the real homage to him.

Apropos the article “Is Arunachal Pradesh a failed State? – by former MP Kiren Rijiju published in some sections of local dailies that created lot of misgivings in the minds of the people. His misconceived notions punctuated with false, fabricated and without any facts and figures needs to be put straight. This clearly reflected his utter frustration to gain cheap political mileage by mudslinging at the popular Congress Government in the State led by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki.
The very headline of the article is misgiving for the word ‘state’ is used in the context of a nation, not any of its federal unit.

Are crimes not occurring in these states? North East states, including Assam and Nagaland have comparatively been peaceful and same goes the case with Arunachal Pradesh where crimes are from outside spill over. If Arunachal is wooing investors from outside, it is a sign of prosperity if an Arunachalee owns property outside the state. The economic development has to be on reciprocal basis.
Opposition is a provision in democracy which none can deny. India is perhaps the best proof where though Congress has ruled for the longest period since India attained democracy but opposition parties have also flourished. So goes the case with Arunachal Pradesh. Who stopped the opposition from rendering its constitutional responsibility? Congress is too big a house with the capacity to accommodate every section of opinion makers but committed to its ideologies.

The State’s financial position is very sound as has been repeatedly told through
the media. The temporary regulatory measures are well within the prescribed norms
to ensure fiscal discipline. All the schemes announced in 2012 in the state assembly
were executed, numerous policy decisions were taken to benefit all sections of the
society, student’s stipend rates have been hiked, thousands of unemployed youths
employed, the health and education sectors witnessed tremendous growth but providing
the statistics would be well neigh impossible for it would be huge. The 2013-

Why we cannot love each other?
Dear Editor,
How can people be so ruthless? Why we cannot love each other? Why people have to kill to satisfy their furious mind. All these lines seem meaningless because it is not I who suffered. Because it is not I whose brother is dead. Because it is not I who is spending sleepless night crying.
Why is it that we always understand things only after it comes to I, Me or My? So
selfish we are, drowned in I, Me and My. Hope someday you will be able to see something
other than I, Me and My and stop being short sighted. We are all Arunachalees -
Why can’t we join our hands together to find out the culprits? Are you trying to say my brother Bomjen Gapak, who was killed mercilessly, was not an Arunachalee? Or is it because he was not your real blooded brother?? Or is it because he was my brother and not yours??? If people of our state live with this kind of ideology, than I oppose to be an Arunachalee. As a girl and a sister, the only thing that I can do is pray for his soul to rest in peace and to help my parents find out those profligate people.
We will never relinquish finding out the culprits, neither me nor my family. Transition which is taking place in our state can devastate the future of our state. We can see different aspects of crimes taking place in our state.
For instance, my brother Bomjen Gapak was killed so brutally and still we are unaware of the person who did it. I don’t get it utterly. As per yesterday’s news, there was no electricity at Legi Complex when the incident happened, but when I personally enquired about it, I was told about the presence of electricity during the incident time.
At first, I asked his friends (who were with him during the incident) about it, they told me electricity was definitely there. Even the people residing at Legi complex informed the presence of electricity. I don't understand where the flaw lies! Now whom should we blame for it? Our state police? People? Our state government? Or my aggrieved family? Crime rate has already pre occupied the whole state. People are turning wild day by day. But everyone is just relishing watching the drama and this is the ugly truth of our society. Justice delayed is like justice denied.
Its a famous saying that unity is strength, so my dear Arunachalee brethrens, it
is my earnest request to each and every one-
'I will never despair. I will work on assertive way,’ let us say this and find the culprits.

Is East Siang district free from unnecessary fee collection ?
Dear Editor,
The collection of daily entry fees from commercial vehicles starts from Ruksin check gate, and within Pasighat and other areas of the district one has to pay yearly tax to so called Banggos for using commercial vehicle in their area.
Apart from these the Banggos also collect yearly tax from domestic animals owner at Rupees 100 or more per cow.
The interesting part is, these banggos will never collect these taxes from the people of their Banggo. It is the outsider (who migrated from other areas) from whom they collect these animal and vehicle taxes.
Now one wonders, why these police personnel charges entry fees at check gate, is this not there duty to guard the check gate, is this collected entry fee accountable, are they not drawing salary from concerned department?
If these police personnel are drawing salaries from their own department why they are doing such activities at check gates, and if it is a government order then why they refuse to issue money receipt.
Regarding Banggo, if they can’t collect taxes from their own people, why they depend on others and impose taxes on others for growth and expansion of their Banggo.
Through this letter, I would like to appeal to the District Magistrate to check collection of illegal entry fee at check gate and also urged the Banggos to maintain equality while collecting vehicle and animals taxes to uphold unity and brotherhood among us.

Say no to tobacco
Tobacco use kills nearly 60 lakh people every year and is the single most preventable
cause of death globally. The World Health Organization, WHO, cautions that unless
countries act, more than 80 lakh people are estimated to fall prey to tobacco every
year by 2030, with four out of five deaths occurring in low and middle-
The tobacco use kills about 10 lakh people in India every year. According to the
Global Adult Tobacco Survey-
The survey finds that 275 million adults in India (15 years and above), nearly 35 percent of the population consume some form of tobacco.
The most prevalent form of tobacco usage is smokeless tobacco with 206 million users. Smokeless tobacco use in India is the highest in the world with 25.9 percent of the adults, 32.9 percent of men and 18.4 percent women, using it.
Among smokeless forms of tobacco, khaini (tobacco with lime mixture) is the most prevalent form (11.6 percent) followed by Gutkha (8.2 percent) and betel quid with tobacco (6.2 percent).
Among smoking forms of tobacco, bidis are the most prevalent form (9.2 percent) followed by cigarettes (5.7 percent).The average age at initiation of tobacco use was 17.8 years with 25.8 percent of females starting tobacco use before the age of 15 years.
A WHO report says 83 countries have introduced a comprehensive ban on all tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship.
